My Story - Zhaoqing Chen

Zhaoqing is an exchange student from China attending school at Dickinson State in ND, and just experienced her first Tour!

A love letter from Qing - A chinese girl's special experience:

I had a very wonderful spring break. I spent 9 days making friends with other 43 awesome guys. It was a very special and treasured memory for me.

Actually, before this 9-day trip, I just finished my 4-day band tour. I was very tired. So at the beginning, I was not very excited about the trip. I am not a very open-minded person. Sitting a place quietly and watching people enjoyed themselves is a very happy thing for me. No expectations no disappointment.

STLF In past 19 years, I tried my best to do everything well. I tried to be a Straight A student. I tried to keep on practicing flute. I tried to be a wonderful daughter of my parents. I don’t want let my parents worry about me. However, I never try to take the initiative to other people, I just wait. I fear rejection. So, I get used to eat alone, study alone and smile alone.

However, the 9-day trip changed me. I learned to make friends actively. I learned to say:’ hi, may I sit beside you tomorrow?’ I have option 1, option2, option3, option4, option5. I opened my heart to my new friends. I enjoyed myself not just watching people have fun. The feeling of someone is caring about you is so good. I felt so lucky to be the part of the amazing family. We played ping pong, we played many interesting games I have not heard of before and we ran wildly on the DC streets. I promise I will not go to guys restroom again! I promise I will never forget you guys.

Yesterday, I packed my suitcase. Everything reminded me of other 43 family members. I can’t believe that just 9 days I can get so much from other person. 9 days, the 43 family member taught me how to care about others, how to express your love to people, how to face the problem directly. Thank you so much! I felt so happy to get a lot of hugs from you.

I will tell my friends in China, I have a very special and awesome family in the USA. I miss you. I love you. Thank you.
