My Story - Russell Ferguson
Russel from Moorhead State tells the story of his Pay It Forward Tour experience in a poem.
Everyone hustling on the bus
Don't really know what’s the fuss
The real people diluted with the hype
Making it impossible to find the right type
I wrote these four lines out of frustration
because at the time I didn't have the patience
To buy into a new idea
Until I met a foreign girl named Rea
She taught me how to say "see ya"
To images of myself from a past time
Met my brother Henry who gave me the courage of the lines
He also gave me the confidence to put this in rhyme
Cause even though I don't show it sometimes I get nervous
And lose sight of the purpose
I ask God why in your eyes do you find it necessary to swerve us
From our goal
When in life all we're trying to do is service
And it grabs hold
My boy Robbie told a story from his soul
This history pulled on the strings of my heart
Shed a tear from my eye, no lie,
I straight up broke down and cried
And I realized this was the start
It began the revolution of my spirit
I sat quietly with myself just so I could hear it
But the change inside caused a lot of stress
No worries though, it was easily remedied by my baby girl Jess
With her I could hear the sound best
And it sounded something like this
Free your mind and your spirit will follow
Even though other people’s pasts seem so hard to swallow
You never know the amount of strife
That’s led any person to their mind state in life
And if you've passed the blight to see the light
Then you'd know it’s better than living in the shade of night
STLF has taught me to never pass judgement
It's my new lifestyle, and like McDonald's, I'm lovin' it
There are many others I'd thank today
Everyone on this Tour has helped me in some way
But fortunately for you guys
This horrid poet is almost done with his word play
These six lines are all I have left to say
Everyone hustling on the bus
Feeling high from that last service rush
All around me are friendly faces
I feel at home in unfamiliar places
Anytime I feel colder or I don't belong
I know I have 40+40 shoulders to rest my head on
