My Story - NDSU Dallas Core
NDSU Dallas Core - Dal Pals
North Dakota State University
The next several stories to be posted will come from Bus Core members of the College Pay It Forward Tour. Keep checking back to read their stories as they prepare for their Tours in March!
Did you know there is only 65 days left until then NDSU Pay It Forward Tour leaves Fargo and gets underway?? As a bus core we, the Dallas core, are so pumped for everything that energy is coming out of our ears! This has been such an exciting process, from finding out that we were all chosen to lead a college tour, to picking out cities, and everything else that comes with it.
But I, Laura, think that the most extraordinary thing that has happened so far is the relationships that we have formed on our core. In the beginning when our core was formed, I felt like an outsider. I had just transferred to NDSU a month previous and was now on this core with four other people who had all been on the same college tour last spring. With all their memories of the past tour floating around our first meeting I thought to myself, 'this is going to be so hard to get on the inside of this group.' But I was wrong. By the end of our meeting I felt as though I had met my four new best friends. Sure, they all had their memories from last year, but this was our core, and it was time to form memories of our own. We all bonded fantastically and hung out as a core way before the core quest came around. Feeling like I have four people that have my back is amazing and something that I have not felt in a long time. :)
As for my story, Courtney :), I have a completely different perspective. Being a chapter core, Rachel, Jon, Connor and I thought it was very difficult to choose a bus core that would not only bond well but also work well together as a group leading and planning the tour. It was an easy choice to place Laura on my tour because all we had to go by was her tour application and what little interaction we had at spring conference and the few meetings we had. I felt she was an excellent candidate. The other 3 bus core were much harder to choose. I knew every applicant personally from past tours, classes, organizations and of course, STLF meetings. It was a difficult process, but I believe the 3 chosen, although there are 4 people from the same tour the previous year, were perfect for this bus. The 5 of us have bonded great since our separate bus cores were finalized.
I'm so glad that we have a great, diverse group of people that have become such close friends.
And getting back to the planning! We are all really excited to get more of our planning complete. With the tour quickly approaching, the nerves are beginning to set in. We are hoping for a smooth tour and to accomplish that we need to clear up all the major and minor details with hopes that everything falls into place nicely. One of our main, common goals is to make an unforgettable tour so all participants have the chance to experience a tour as great as any of our tours, perhaps to inspire people the way we were inspired....
