I went on my first tour this year. It was the first college tour to come out of Michigan State University. I had an amazing experience. There were so many close bonds formed and the ability of all of us to connect through community service really spoke to me. I was so grateful to have had the incredible opportunity presented to me, and I enjoyed it so thoroughly I wanted to continue working with STLF.

Upon return from my spring break College Tour, I was offered a spot as a leader on a High School Tour. At first I admit I was nervous because I had never held a true leadership role. The experience honestly changed my life. Working with the students and assisting them in their development as leaders of this world helped me realize the leader within myself. I realized through compassion and will power, an individual can truly change the world.

During the trip, as a group, we participated in several community service projects. The students experienced a visible change as the trip went on and as the service intensified. One of our projects required the students to visit the elderly in a home. I saw all these students lovingly and compassionately speak to each elderly woman as if she was his or her grandmother. The students truly embodied the power STLF has in those moments in the home.

Beyond the bonds formed outside of the group, the group itself turned into one big family. As an individual, I gained confidence as a leader and I left the trip with complete satisfaction in knowing that as leaders, we made a difference.  I have the firm belief that every one of the students will go on to change the world positively.
