United Way Giving
Are you already giving through the United Way? Here's how to designate your gift to STLF!
Author: Jan Sickbert, U of M Foundation
Many of you who work at large companies are quite accustomed to the annual community campaigns or funding drives through the United Way. One thing that many are unaware of though, is the ability to designate your United Way gift to any charity of your choosing. Even though STLF is not formally a United Way agency, you can still designate your gift by writing in STLF on your gift form.
Jan Sickbert works in Development at the University of Minnesota Foundation and is the Chair of the STLF Development Committee. Here she describes why she and her husband Alan support STLF and how they use the United Way campaign to do so:
"Alan and I contribute to STLF because we believe in the power of servant leadership. STLF provides opportunities for young people to make a meaningful difference through which they build self-confidence and self-awareness. Our support of STLF is made easier because we simply choose STLF as our beneficiary through the Community Campaign (United Way). On the pledge form we identify STLF as the organization to which we would like our donation designated. It’s that simple. Because we have money deducted monthly we are able to make a larger commitment than we would if we were writing out a check for a one-time gift. We are delighted to be associated with STLF and to support the life-changing work it inspires."
