My first three months on staff have flown by, but I’ve learned a lot and it has been so much fun. With retreats, conferences, college tours, high school tours, middle school tours, and camps coming up, life in programming is never dull. There is an opportunity to work with a variety of people—students as participants and leaders, staff, school administration, and the Twin Cities nonprofit community. Along with the fun, casual office atmosphere never short of STLF apparel and ramen noodles, you have an opportunity for professional development and learn the business side of STLF. It is exciting to be a part of a small staff with the challenges and excitement of geographical expansion and growing numbers of tours and participants.
As we near the end of our college programming season (final two buses take off from St. Olaf tomorrow) STLF has an exciting opportunity of opening a full time position at the National Office to work on our programming core. With many inquiries for new college chapters and an expanding High School program, we are fortunate to be able to hire another program manager.
The cornerstone of STLF is the core model, which is used at all levels of the organizations. The National office is set up in cores, just as buses, chapters, and events are run by cores. Instead of one executive director, three people share the responsibilities, excitement, and challenges that the position brings. STLF programming is run in a similar manner, with three staff members sharing all aspects of supporting, planning, executing, and envisioning the future of STLF programming with the students that want to make it happen. It’s an exciting group to be a part of and something I enjoy waking up and rushing to the office for every morning.
