A Work of Art!
Several members of STLF's Board and Co-Directors assembled a meal to be remembered...

Wednesday night was a fun, new experience for STLF’s Board of
Directors and Co-Executive Directors.
With Becca Berger leading the way, seven of us were able to come
together for an evening where we were able to Taste Success. Working with this organization, team building
and bonding takes place through the vehicle of cooking.
Our instructor presented us with all the tools we needed to succeed—food, aprons (with our names on them), and limited instruction! This limited instruction allowed us the opportunity to take charge and create something that was unique to our group. It was incredible to see the synergies form and the leadership emerge.
For me, there was a fun moment where I looked over at two Board Members I respect and look up to… Art Berman was explaining how to cut ginger and Pat Foley listened intently. It was a teaching and learning moment that struck me and I will definitely hold with me.
Somehow, in a seemingly short period of time, we suddenly had a beautiful meal in front of us… a mixed greens salad with tomatoes and a balsamic dressing that we were able to create together, and the assortment of appetizer breads was quickly consumed. The chicken was garnished and the shrimp was marinated with a taste that was to die for! I must admit, I ate ten shrimps all on my own :). Of course, what better way to wrap up a meal than with a dessert that several of us worked together on—melted chocolate on pound cake with sautéed peaches. I know what you are thinking… YUM!!!
As we sat around the table together and shared our meal
and tasted success, we shared what we learned from the experience—about leadership,
and teamwork, about each other. Amelious
Whyte put it well when he compared our experience to our meal. He said that we, as a group, made the main
dish, and our instructor was able to add the spice and the finishing touches to
make it something special.
In some ways, that is what the Board is for us STLF Staff. They guide us in our endeavors, challenge and improve our strategies, and add that “little extra something” that sets STLF apart!
I am thankful to Becca (affectionately known as “Captain Bruschetta”) for her leadership in organizing the event. I can speak for everyone at STLF in our gratitude for the entire Board of Directors. Words cannot express our feelings of thanks and appreciation for their dedication, work ethic, and friendship.
